Box Plyometrics
An explosive training program that is “high risk, high reward.” Coach has gone through the base program himself while a student-athlete at the University of Hawaii. Over the 3 decades since those beginnings, he has fine tuned it to maximize results and minimize injuries. Key points of the program include: mechanics/movements, understanding the body’s plyometrics angles and why it’s so important, program progression, and beginning and current metrics from the program.

Metrics Testing

Strength of Mind
“Where the mind goes, the body will follow.” When you start down the path towards a chosen goal, this is where everything begins. Whatever your sport, whatever your goal… if an athlete doesn’t know how to efficiently apply the messaging between their mind and body, performance becomes an even greater challenge than the moment itself. The athletes are shown how to strengthen and solidify each moment to continuously build their strength of mind.

Basketball
The game of basketball has been Coach’s first sport, having played it since he was 9 years old. He was one of 2 county-wide freshmen in 1984 to play varsity basketball at Laupahoehoe High School. In 1988, he made the basketball team of his dream school, the University of Hawaii, the hard way… as a walk-on. He eventually earned a scholarship his junior season and took the knowledge and experiences with him to this day. He has coached for over 30 years — 5 year olds all the way up to boy’s and girl’s varsity basketball. Parents have commented how he would be a great collegiate level coach. Coach emphasizes fundamentals. Big time. Along with his understanding of movements, tactics, court positioning, Coach can help players and teams alike!

Volleyball
Coach played 4 years of varsity boy’s volleyball at Laupahoehoe High School in Hawaii. It is one of 6 sports that Coach played during his high school years. He works with volleyball players that are looking to start the sport of volleyball – teaching the fundamentals of bumping, volleying, hitting, and serving. But the majority of volleyball players that come into the studio seek training in explosive movements — particularly with the plyometric boxes. Being a former volleyball player and understanding how important an athlete’s vertical jump is in this sport, gives Coach some valuable insight into bringing out the most in an athlete’s explosive potential.

Muay Thai / Kickboxing
Coach began his journey in the martial arts world in 1993 when he was introduced to the art of Muay Thai kickboxing. Back then, no one knew what it was. He first trained with a master of Muay Thai but could only watch copies of videotaped fights when they were brought to the US from Thailand. In 1996, he was appointed the president of the Hawaii Mindpower Association as they headed to Thailand and competed for the first time in the capital city of Vientiane, Laos. In 1996, he founded the Laupahoehoe School of Muay Thai (LSMT), in which he started off with 2 students, teaching them on dirt roads and open fields at times. At its peak, the LSMT had several hundred students spanning 4 branches on 2 islands. He led the LSMT to many demonstrations throughout the islands and many competition championships. One of Coach’s biggest strengths is being able to teach Eastern meditation and visualization to enhance his student’s performances. “Where the mind goes, the body will follow.” These same teachings are reinforced in his athletes at MANA. A particular type of instinct that has never been used, but lays dormant in all of us. This is a higher level of performance which works well with athletes who are underestimated and overlooked. The biggest strength that an athlete has is their ability to dream and their power to want. Guidance before, during, and after these moments is a strong point at MANA.

Mentorship / Life Coaching
Over the years, whether it’s former basketball players, martial arts students, clients of MANA or even kids who have lost their way, Coach continues to stay in touch with those that have looked for guidance, advice, or even just to share their experiences and accomplishments. When a family, client, or child comes into the MANA Sports Performance studio, their efforts will lead to what kind of experience they can get out of Coach. When it’s there, Coach always looks to establish, build, and solidify relationships that can potentially span decades. If they choose, they have a mentor for life.
Personal Training

40+, Retirees, Mature Adult
Coach understands all of the challenges that come with aging. In 2024, Coach turned 54 years old. As he balances 2 teenagers, work, and maintaining a fitness regimen, Coach incorporates his experiences into his clients’ sessions. Give him a goal and he will plot a path to it. Strength, endurance, mobility, flexibility, boosted energy levels… you can choose a 30 min session to get started and switch to 1 hour sessions later. Post Rehabilitation
After your injury, you are done with physical therapy. Now what? One of Coach’s biggest mantras is “listen to your body.” Whether it’s through continued healing by meditation, strength training, or a lifestyle change, let Coach help you get back to it!

Youth Training
One of Coach’s biggest strengths is his experience working with kids from 8 - 17 years old. The next Shohei Ohtani, Caitlin Clark, Lebron James, or Tiger Woods. This age group is where it all begins. He gravitates to the underestimated and overlooked — the underdogs that believe in themselves and are ready to WORK for their goals and dreams. The kids that want it, but are told they “can’t.” He’ll analyze the situation and give an honest insight. More importantly the explanation of why a kid can or can’t. Why is this a strength of Coach? Because he was one of those kids. Ask him about his story.
